No, Apple is *not* going to acquire Palm, just like IBM is not going to buy Apple.
I guess that this title is totally off-topic, sorry for that, but this is my way of catching your attention on how the wildest rumors are spreading on the web.
IBM is selling their PC business for $1.25 Billion and all the sudden big rumors are popping out that they might buy Apple that's worth $24B. Even if IBM is a giant worth $160B, this story doesn't make much sense to me. I don't see the Apple employees reacting very favorably to being overtaken by IBM. At best, it would spark a mass exodus (at worst, the employees would set the building on fire before quitting).
The other factor is that IBM is the provider of the G5 microprocessor that all modern Macs a powered by. Would that give them some leverage for an acquisition? Probably not. My sources at Apple are telling me that the Cuppertino company always maintains a version of Mac OS X that runs on intel…
