This "brain pacemaker" could help treat depression for some patients. It is implanted in the chest and sends electric signal to the vagus nerve (2 milliamp for 30 seconds every 5 mn). This is called "nerve stimulation". This gizmo could receive FDA approval this summer. For the side effects, popular science lists a few: "While patients can't feel the implant, some say that their voice changes or that they get short of breath when the electrodes are firing"
