Kinetic Energy Cell: Vibrations To Produce Electricity

Posted on Feb 28, 05 11:57 PM PDT

The idea of using motion to create energy is not new, but recent developments could make it useable soon.

The Centre for Energy and Greenhouse Technologies announced today that it plans to invest $125,000 in Kinergi Pty Ltd, the company that will sell the Kinetic Energy Cell. The latest cell has the size of a 9-volt battery, but smaller cells are being worked on.

I doubt that this will replace standard batteries soon, but it might help to some extent, and it's great because it's pollution-free: "Because the cell can replace standard and alkaline batteries in some applications, it is a non-polluting solution to small power requirements. Six billion dry cell batteries are produced annually by the world's largest manufacturer."
