No wonder why my 4GB microdrive was so cheap, both Seagate and Hitachi are launching their new drives.
6GB is equivalent to 3000 songs. The drive is expected to be found in gadgets such as the iPod mini, but also in GPS and possibly in cellphones and PDAs.
A very interesting emerging market is the automobile. With GPS navigation installed in standard in more vehicles, a hard drive solution might attract manufacturers because it is smaller and possibly more elegant than a DVD drive.
The Seagate drive has a few cool features such as: RunOn Technology: Reliability under high-motion conditions. If you run with your Digital Audio Player, you might sake it quite a bit. This drive will function normally.
G-Force Protection: Protection against shocks from mishandling: Another shock related protection. This one prevents the hard drive head from touching the platter (at several thousands revolutions per minute, this could be bad...)
