Hitachi is about to turn the hard disk world upside down by marketing the industry’s highest-performing, most power-efficient hard disk for mainstream computing and electronics segment. Hitachi’s Travelstar 4K 120 is the world’s first 2.5” hard disk drive that allows AV Streaming Command Set – in layman’s terms, that enhances audio/video streaming abilities in devices such as digital video recorders (DVR).

Favored by CE manufacturers for its petite size and high capacity, the Travelstar 4K 120 will usher in an era of fan-less DVRs. It can also be incorporated into game consoles, digital jukeboxes, personal media player devices, and set-top boxes.

Under stress tests run by Hitachi, the Travelstar 4K 120 outperforms all its rivals in the 4200rpm 2.5” hard disk drive category, based on published specifications for seek time, read/write functions and data transfer rates. With the new Hitachi Voltage Efficiency Regulator Technology (HiVERT), battery life is prolonged to unprecedented levels (in some cases, up to 178% better power utilisation that its rivals). Shipping in from volumes of 40GB to 120GB at 20GB per increment, the Travelstar 4K 120 is Hitachi’s 30th generation 2.5” product.
