Using one’s mobile phone as a keyboard and mouse for the PC defies logic, but apparently Quixun thinks otherwise. They have developed a system that enables the mobile phone to act as both keyboard and mouse for the PC.
Employing the underutilised infrared connection found in most mobile phones, it is able to control a PC within the connection range. All you need to do is to attach a USB-powered infrared sensor to the PC and install a customized application on the mobile phone via infrared.
Pressing the phone’s keys in various patterns will cause the software in the PC to translate it to a corresponding key on the PC. The operation of the mouse is not yet finalized due to the intricacies in the software, but it is highly likely that the mouse will be emulated by the directional buttons on the phone. Customized versions, depending on the phone model itself, are in the works in order to reach the widest spectrum of audience possible.
Quixun claims that this system can also be used for camera, AV remote controller functionality and the transfer of URL data as well. Read the press release here (its in Japanese).
