Belgian researchers at the University of Antwerp have invented a fragile looking robot, called the “Bat-Bot”. It operates on the similar principle as flesh-and-blood bats, using echolocation to distinguish different types of plants. What it is lacking at the moment are a pair of wings that will enable it to take to the sky, but it is a technological marvel by its own right in using sound or sonar waves in the air to identify flora. This development might be a giant step forward in the development of self-navigating or autonomous robots.[Via Treehugger]
