If you did not believe it yet, the time has come. Palm's chief financial officer hinted that his company would benefit from having a Windows-powered Treo because it would please corporate customers (and also because Palm OS' future is not bright). Palm previously said officially that building a windows device has never been ruled out (as we reported in Nov 2004), although Palm dismissed rumors of a PocketPC Treo last year. In April 20505, the Windows Treo rumor surfaced again.

At this point, there is no official word on the Treo 700 or Treo 670, but it is pretty clear that something is in the works. Many photos and videos of what looks like a next-generation Treo have been circulating on the internet. There is little doubt that such a device would have 3G capabilities (2Mbps data access speed) and while the launch date is unknown, the presence of a prototype suggests that it is in testing phase and that Q1 2006 might be a reasonable time frame for the launch. (continued below...)

Apparently, Palm has already awarded the manufacturing contract of the Treo 670 to HTC, a Taiwanese electronics design firm specialized in Windows Mobile Devices. HTC is well known for its smartphones, such as the Apache, Universal and the Magician. This is one more hint that the Windows Treo is alive.

Treo 670 rumored specs• Windows Mobile 5• EVDO 2 Mbps data access (CMDA version) • 1.3MP camera • Screen resolution of 320 * 320 • Bluetooth
