The latest research from Strategy Analytics show that Nokia topped the list of vendors, shipping 9 million WCDMA (3G) phones worldwide during the second quarter of 2005 (April to June). The amount constitutes 17% of the global share, and translated, that means Nokia has half of the 3G market in its pocket. NEC and LG are feeling the heat after being overtaken by the Finnish phone giant, and the next battle of WCDMA phones will see prices driven downwards to the sub-$200 level.

Motorola leads the 2.5G (GPRS) market but will have to exert extra effort to lift itself from the bottom of the barrel when it comes to 3G.
