We’re all familiar with touch screens that are present on many devices. Mitsubishi and NTT DoCoMo are using that technology to create touch keys. The goal is to replace the traditional cellphone keypad by virtual buttons. This opens the door to display only the buttons that needed in the current context. For example, the numeric pad not really needed for something else than dialing and shortcuts, while it takes most of the phone’s real estate. This would also allow phones manufacturers to create special user interfaces for kids and elderly people who only want access to basic functions. That’s a great idea.
