The US Consumer Product Safety Division reports that Nikon is recalling rechargeable battery packs with the model number EN-EL3. Apparently, these batteries can short circuit, overheat, and experience a meltdown. So far 710,000 of such batteries have been distributed worldwide with 200,000 of these residing in US alone. These lithium-ion batteries are meant for the SLR D100, D70, and D50 models. Battery packs made from China should be avoided like the plague according to Nikon USA.
