If you are serious about sound recording, you should look at The Sony PCM-D1 microphone. Aimed towards professionals, this device is equipped with 4GB of internal memory (yikes!). It probably contains a small processor that analyses the signal, but the key part of the recording resides in two microphones that have different orientations. Personally, I just like it because it looks cool.
