I bought one of these cameras and it is great small enough that I take it everywhere even places I should not take it. If you want to check out some of the video checkout my site.

So I am thinking about getting this hd1 unit but since the unit does not have a firewire output, I am sure how one would manage to transfer recordings to a dvr (most all existing dvr) that has only firewire input.

Bad idea, they should just make different models. A big one that could support a 3.5 HDD and smaller ones with HDD.But not MPEG4 video.I have allready edited MPEG4 to DVD and it looks bad afterwards. If in the future DVD players or Blue Ray Disc players support MPEG4 with menus this would be a cool product. Expensive too. It's a product for amatures who want to see what HD looks like.

It's MPEG-4 so I'd guess about 20 Minutes per GB.

I know they had to compress the video to fit it on the card, but whats the point of recording HD if you can't maintain the quality when you edit. If you are starting out with MPEG4 video then editing, it sure won't be HD in the final cut.

What about storage ?

Hope it isn't a 1GB SD Card, 720p will chew through that in seconds.
