BMW Motorrad WCS-1 Bluetooth helmet
Motorcyclists have always been on the losing end when it comes to great audio during a road trip. BMW’s Motorrad WCS-1 helmet could change the picture as it comes with an embedded Bluetooth headset within. It is compatible with phone headset profiles, audio A2DP, and upcoming Bluetooth MP3 players. A trio of external buttons control the volume and power. You can also retrofit the kit to any existing BMW helmet if it needs be. This niche market could do with a decent Bluetooth MP3 player in order to realize its potential.

I must be old-fashioned, but I STRONGLY FEEL THE FOLLOWING WAY:
1. It's NOT SAFE, while riding a cycle!
2. It's not necessary!
3. It's too expensive anyway.

I have the WCS-1 and have been using it for over 12 months. It works great with the phone but getting music has been a problem - until now. The helmet supports A2DP bluetooth headphone profile. I tested it with some bluetooth dongles but found they had a short battery life and didn't reconnect properly after taking a phone call. Just bought a Samsung YP-T9B bluetooth MP3 player. All problems solved. The MP3 player connects to the helmet in stereo. Helmet turns off the headphone profile when a call comes in and the the MP3 player is smart enough to keep trying to reconnect and re-establishes connection after the call. Helmet battery life is a bit low when using with MP3 player as its on all the time - equivalent of 3 hrs phone call. I've got about 3hrs reliably - but am looking at an on bike charger or something. I've surfed the net for ages trying to find what can work and not many have succeeded. If you want two way radio comms through the helmet you should look at albrecht BPA100. It uses headset profile just like a phone would. Problem is this wont work with phone at same time but solution is to use a wired phone headset into BPA100 along with radio.

The WCS-1 works with the Samsung YP-T9B MP3 player. Just dont use the helmet in heavy rain. I understand BMW have withdrawn the WCS-1 from the market due to technical issues with water.
Too bad if you wanted a second helmet for an intercom any time soon.

This is a great gadget. Hopefully this post will help others looking for MP3 connection to the WCS-1 bluetooth helment

Its great....BUT..
The speakers deliver a very "flat" quality sound which is great for listening to a person (e.g. using the phone or speaking & listening to your pillion) but not for listening to music as you need some bass & listening to flat music s***ks.
I use it with my 550 zumo for music & what sounds like a nice "normal" song on my PC or hifi, is flat on the helmet. Not nice.
P.S. watch out for the battery, it says 4 hours/charge & its easy to forget that hours pass quickly on the bike..!

No need to find a bluetooth MP3 player. An excellent choice would be a Garmin GPS with XM Radio and built in MP3 player, and the 2820 model as well as motocycle-focused Zumo model are both (drumroll) BlueTooth enabled! 3 cheers for no wires!

Why is it not a good idea to listen to music while riding? What possible difference is there between bikes and cars in that respect? Riders generally take a lot more care riding than most car owners ever will. We have to.

Mr Hiu has never owned a BMW System 5 helmet. If he did he would know that it is the quietest on the market and wind noise does not pose an issue when listening to an ipod.

I think it is great to be able to have Bluetooth feature embedded into this helmet.

But I don't recommend listening to music while cruising!! And I don't think that you can hear music loud enough because of wind noise, unless u crank up high volume, possibly u can lose hearing! If you keep doing like this!.

The same thing watching movie on the airplane! With headset on your ears.

Or listen iPod in the train.
use your common sense
