Dell 2407WFP released in Japan

Dell Japan has released the 2407WFP yesterday, and it is nothing short of impressive. Boasting 1920 x 1200 native resolution, Dell has added HDCP, boosted its contrast ratio to 1000:1, offers a 500 cd/m2 brightness and a lightening fast 6ms response time. Visible angle is amazing at 178 degrees wide while the 4-in-1 card reader is retained. You can swivel the unit 90 degrees to create a portrait layout. It measures 559.7 x 387.9 x 195mm but weighs a surprisingly manageable 8.3kg with its 20mm thick bezel. Price : around $1300.

The word on the street is that Dell is going to launch a 27” model that boasts the same 2560x1600 resolution that the 30” (Ubergizmo’s 3007WFP review) display, but at a much lower price. Sweet!

This one is now on campaign on Dell's online shop in Japan (until June 12th) at a mere JPY79000 (free shipping), that's around USD700! I got the 2405 last year for JPY100000 and was very pleased with that deal, but this offer makes me think a dual monitor setup is something I actually need.

This monitor looks incredibly promising, but there is a typo in the article above. The monitor will not have a 4 in 1 media card reader. It will be 9 in 4. It will support all major cards except for the xD picture card format.

The REASON why the Dell 2407WFP is not on sale in the U.S yet is because there is still a large stock pile of 2405FPW to be shifted. This is apparent by looking at the price of it on the U.S Dell website (and everywhere else).

The new model has been on sale in the U.K about a week.

I bought a 23" HD Cinema display from Apple and it wouldn't work with my Mac Mini. Anyone know if this will?

I have done a lot research into monitors up to this size and this one has the lot. All the options you could ever want in an LCD. Yes, I am going to buy one!:D

I find it very strange how this model has not popped up in the US. Im in Australia and this model has been here for over a month or 2 already. Check out our Dell Australian website and you will find this model currently being sold.

Guess what? The online manual for the 2407WFP is on Dell's site at http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/2407WFP/. Hopefully it won't be too much longer before it's available!

The 2405FPW is a steal right now. BUT Blue Ray & HD-DVD are right around the corner. So what's the point of dropping $800 on a monitor that will be obsolete by the end of the year???

It looks great on the paper, and I haven't tried a real one, but I have tried the 2001FP and the 3007WFP which were both great.

I would recommend taking a good look at the current 2405FPW monitor, that can be found for $850.

Interesting. Dell does not usually put up with the aesthetics - I guess that maybe I should rethink about Dell now. What are some of your personal opinions on this product? You seeem to talk about lots of positives; but what about the flaws?
