Universal won't downscale HD content
Universal followed Sony’s cue by not utilizing the Image Constraint Token (ICT) that downsizes HD-DVD and Blue-Ray titles to 540p resolution in the absence of HDCP HDMI connectors. ICT implementation has received its fair share of brickbats from the beginning as honest people are prevented from enjoying their HD movies fully rather than the intention of eradicating pirates. Early HDTVs do not support HDCP, thus the exclusion of ICT is seen as a necessary move for mass adoption of HDTVs.
