"Magnetic Fridge" Could Be 40% More Efficient

Published on 04/26/2006

University of Cambridge's researchers are working on an alloy blend of cobalt, manganese, silicon, and germanium that could herald the next generation of refrigerators that are 40% more energy efficient than conventional models. This alloy, when placed in a magnetic field, cools down considerably. Such a development will certainly go a long way in conserving our already limited energy resources. Hopefully with more research, this technology will be able to be implemented by the home appliance industry worldwide.
