Panasonic released its 7.5 megapixel DMC-L1 digital SLR camera recently, bringing the previously unattainable Leica lenses to the entry-level DSLR crowd. Since Panasonic has cozied up to German camera-maker Leica who is noted for some of the best cameras in the world, the DMC-L1 comes with imported camera technology from Leica while Panasonic contributes to the techie part. If you have the extra dough, purchase the similar camera that has a Leica brand slapped on it. The only difference would be the metal versus a plastic case on the Panasonic, but the image quality will remain the same. Oh, and not to forget that Panasonic's offering will be generally half the Leica's price at $2000.
