RoverTV from Doghouse Electronics
Doghouse Electronics has launched its RoverTV, a portable media recorder device. This extremely slim form factor is achieved by excluding a hard drive inside and replacing it with a SD memory card slot. The RoverTV can be plugged into any media device imaginable - a TV, DVD, CD, FM radio, or PC. It supports MP3, MP4, WAV, JPEG, BMP, and GIF file formats. You can also transfer data onto the SD card via the USB port. The RoverTV is available in 3.5" and 4" widescreen editions, retailing at $299 and $349 respectively. Either package will come with a 2GB and 1GB SD card to get you started.

This appears to be a bogus company, because: 1. No working phone, and 2. just look at the comments above. No reprutable company would treat its customers this way. What bull---t. Somebody, please sue these b-----ds.

I won the Wide Screen RoverTV on the MOrning Show with Mike and Juliet on 01/23/07. I also have not received it yet. I have sent many e-mail and have never received a reply back. Back when their phone worked I was lucky enough to actully speak to a person back in late April/early May. I was instructed thet they were held up at customs. I was assured that the individuals who won them on TV shows would be receiving them first. It has now been 10 months and still have received nothing. I have tried e-mailing the Morning Show with Mike and Juliet. None of my e-mails have been returned.

So I'm back here. I posted a note on 3/2/07 about all the shipping problems I had. I finally got it delivered and it worked wonderfully....for a month. I emailed technical support with my problems and they did answer me, only that they would cut and paste standard answers that you can tell were not specific to my issues. The recorder is not working so right now I have the biggest MP3 player ever (that's all that works on it). Eventually I contact them so I can return it...I was told someone would call me back. That was 2 months ago. I just try to call again...surprise, surprise...the telephone has been disconnected, so for all I know they went out of business and I’m stuck with this useless "gadget". I would appreciate that the person that posted a note here saying that they know people that work at "DogHouse", to please let me know if there are still in business and where to reach them.
Thanks,

Reply to Brooke:

That the EXACT thing that happened to me. I charged it on for a while, came back, turned the screen and..PITCH BLACK *oh noes* Then I tired to ask costumer service my problem and god knows when I emailed them but so far still no reply. After months I just gave up on the damn thing(and when it was working I really did love my Rover TV) BUT, today actually, when I was cleaning up my room I saw my poor Rover TV on my desk and I turned it on just for the hell of it and ITS ALIVE!

I guess all it needed was a good quite a few months to rest. I still love it, and im using it as crazy as I did before but the site and the rover TV does have some very major glitches.

Hey but don't let this review scare you, all the features on teh Rover TV are awesome. The quality and audio of video, being able to hold pics, and the whole recording off the TV.

I placed my order on June 9th, 2007. Not only have I not received my item but I have called (without reply), sent over 6 emails, filled a complaint with their local BBB, and threatened to sue them for forgery. I have not received one reply. This company is a joke. If they are swamped with too many orders, then take the f-ing time to contact your customers and explain the situation. For those others who have been screwed - the owner of the company is Jim Howard and his office is @ 1808 29th Ave S, Homewood, AL 35209.

I know these reviews sound disappointing, but I know the main guy in charge of marketing personally and I know for a fact that the company is not bogus, they are simply swamped with orders. They are not ripping people off, they are suffering from biting off more than they can chew and simply cannot equipped to deal with demand yet. If you bought one, please keep hope that you *will* get what you paid for, you just have to wait. I have a RoverTV and it is worth every cent. I have had no problems with it, I carry it everywhere, bang it up, and it works perfectly.

It was a great little toy for the whole two weeks it worked. :p One day, I took it off the charger to turn it on and... nothing. No problem, right? It's under a one year warrantee! Well, that was nearly four months ago. Rover's technical support and customer service is a sad, sad ****ing joke. Despite maintaining "issue ID" trails between emails, every response to my inquiries is met by someone who seems not to have any idea what my product history is, and that's when I'm lucky/persistant enough to trick them into responding at all. Buyer Beware, indeed.

I can't believe all the trouble everyone has had receiving their tv's. You might try ebay first if you don't feel like waiting forever, although you should choose from whom you buy very carefully! My R-tv came new in the box! Also take time to explore the web for user tips and tricks, there is a way around or through almost every problem I've read about! www.scroogle.com

Can you connect a DVD player to the AV analog input and use it as a video screen to watch movies played directly from the DVD player?

I ordered 12/15/06 and it is now 2/20/07, over two months, they charged my credit card on 12/18/06, and I have yet to receive it! I have sent numerous emails, called, no answers. "Backordered" is all I get told, and when they do reply to my email (three replies, compared to about 20 emails I've sent to them) they do not even apologize, they are nasty with one word or two word answers. I even told them if I don't receive it or any kind of legitimate answer, I will report them to my credit card as fraud and not receiving the item I paid for 2 months ago. This is insane!

I too have not received my RoverTV yet and ordered in December. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they now say it will be shipped this week. Maybe that's the only way to actually get the item. www.bbbonline.com

My wonderful husband ordered mine (as a Christmas gift) early December. Te day after he placed the order we got an e-mail saying that it was back-ordered and that he would have to re-place the order on Dec. 27th and they charged us is full. So I got a gift receipt (from RoverTV) on Christmas. We confirmed that we still wanted the product on Dec 27th and they e-mailed back giving an estimated delivery of 5-6 weeks (ugghh). It is now Feb 3rd and no RoverTV. We e-mailed again last week wanting to know what was going on. We got a 1 line e-mail saying that the goods are not here yet and that we should get it in Feb. We wrote back wanting more specific information (Feb. does have 28days!). We got a nasty and condescending e-mail basically saying that it is what it is and if we don’t wanted they will give us a full refund...they said, "it is a hot item". So, we had to shut up so they don’t put our order to the end of the line, but it we don’t get it by the end of Feb. We will cancel. 2 and a half months of wait might be too much...even for this product!!

I went to order mine on Christmas and saw they had a message up that they were back ordered, so I waited until they took the message down. I noticed the backorder message had been removed on Dec. 27 so I placed my order. 2 weeks later I had not been charged nor received anything other than an email confirmation that my order had been placed. I checked their site and noticed that it was between 2-4 weeks for order processing (which is RIDICULOUS, but they did warn me up front). I waited 4 weeks, no charge and no delivery. I emailed them and heard back the same day. I was told that (despite them taking down the notice on the website) my order had placed while it was back ordered and it would ship by "the end of January." Today's February 1 and still no charge and no delivery, no nothing. I'm going to email them again, but I'm starting to worry a bit. At leas tthey haven't taken my money yet.

My dh ordered this for me for my birthday mid december. We finally got it early january. I think they did not anticipate how much business they would have. every time dh emailed or called, he got responses. they knew exactly where it ws, and kept us updated along the way. I think he called 4 times,a nd emailed 3, and they were always available.

anyway, i have had it for a few days, and i think it rocks. recorded many shows/movies, and it looks great!!!

To levster's messsage from 26-dec:

Yes, one of the unique features of this Rover TV is that it has "analog" input RCA plugs from any DVD player, VCR, TV, etc to "record" directly into the Rover TV. So, the best way to "import" a DVD movie is to 'play" it in your DVD player and "record" it on Rover.

Since modt DVDs are copy-protected, the only other work-around is to dump the "data" contents from your DVD onto your PC, use special software, convert the files to MPEG-4 or AVI (huge) or WMF and then copy to the Rover using the USB cable.....uggh!

Otherwise, theis Rover TV is still a very nice small form portable "video" player, although it can also do slide shows, music. I took it to family over the holidays with pics on it.

I ordered the tv on Dec 4th. I was told after calls and emails it would arrive by Dec.22. They charged my crdeit card on the 4th I still do not have the tv. No one is responding to my emails or phone calls. The message line is full. I'm upset and frustrated. Next call is to the better business bureau and the "Ellen" show which gave it in their gift giveaway.

I ordered mine in early December as well.. and was worried but DID get email responses to status - so Good Job in my book during the holiday season to the cust service reps!
and IT SHOWED UP when they said it would!

Only had it for a few days but so far so good. Yep, directions/instructions are really poor but menu is fairly intuitive. Easy to move pictures and MP3's from the PC to the card/Rover. Recorded some TV -- and worked :) -- just have to adjust the volume on the TV louder so it can be better over the Rover. Still trying to find an easy CHEAP/Free program to convert DVD movies to a format watchable.... anyone find one yet?
;)

I got my Rover wide screen last week and so far so good. I'm taping my tv shows on rthe rover and have figured out how to store them on the hard drive on my laptop so I can re-use the memory card. FYI I got tech help on the phone from the company when I was trying to figure out how to move shows from the rover onto the computer.

I'm not sure that it's a "bogus company" since I'm staring at my very own Rover TV. They do indeed answer the phones, but are swamped with orders and some technical support questions about the unit. Fundamentally, the user manual is poor, but the on-screen menus are pretty intuitive. The unit itself works great for recording video directly from my TV line-out jacks as well as downloading AVI vide files, MP3, etc from my PC.....hang in there. maybe the launched a bit prematurely.
