Samsung develops next-gen mobile, digital displays

Samsung Electronics has a couple of LCD goodies up their sleeves – a 3.5” LCD with embedded touch screen and the world’s first 7” LCD that is driven by a single chip. The 3.5″ hTSP (hybrid Touch Screen Panel) boasts qVGA resolution and built-in touch screen capability. A normal LCD panel with touch screen comes with a separate printed circuit board (PCB) that is joined to other sensor circuitry located at the top of the LCD panel. Samsung does away with this prerequisite by packing in the entire sensor circuit within the panel, allowing a sleeker and lighter 3.5″ display with a bright, high contrast image in mobile devices. Other than a more efficient product cost, Samsung’s touch screen circuitry is produced via a similar thin-film transistor (TFT) processing that the company utilizes in mass production across all its LCD facilities presently. This revolutionary LCD panel can be used in many portable devices that require the use of a touch screen, including navigation systems in vehicles and Portable Media Players (PMPs). Other potential application outlets include smartphones, PDAs, UMPCs, and various multimedia devices.
