Electronic items raking up power bills
The Energy Saving Trust reports that usage of domestic appliances and consumer electronics will double by the time this decade comes to an end in U.K. Huges sales volumes of such devices have virtually countered the energy efficiency measures used in these devices. It is estimated that digital TVs alone will cost £780m a year to run by 2010. What started out as dryers, washing machines, and refrigerators in the 1970s have expanded to tootbrushes, juicers, PCs, notebooks, MP3 players, digital cameras, cellphones, and other power-hungry items in the average household.
