Fingerprint sensor by Seiko Epson

Published on 07/30/2006

There is a new 0.2mm fingerprint sensor in town, courtesy of Seiko Epson. This new device is a boon to manufacturers of mobile devices as the possibilities are endless - imagine self-identifying credit cards, iPods, and cellphones? You no longer have to worry if somebody forges your credit card, they'll still need to have your fingerprint in order to authorize a transaction. This technology reads fingerprint patterns via miniscule electric current that emanates from the user's fingertip. Seiko Epson is looking to commercialize the sensor within the next four years. Better make sure your insurance covers all 10 digits.
