Fingerprint sensor by Seiko Epson
There is a new 0.2mm fingerprint sensor in town, courtesy of Seiko Epson. This new device is a boon to manufacturers of mobile devices as the possibilities are endless - imagine self-identifying credit cards, iPods, and cellphones? You no longer have to worry if somebody forges your credit card, they'll still need to have your fingerprint in order to authorize a transaction. This technology reads fingerprint patterns via miniscule electric current that emanates from the user's fingertip. Seiko Epson is looking to commercialize the sensor within the next four years.
