Yahoo! and Microsoft build IM bridge
Published on 07/13/2006

Yahoo! and Microsoft have put aside their differences for the moment to allow users of both instant messaging programs to contact each other directly. Both companies have collaborated to release software that unites users on both sides, with the final estimate at somewhere around 350 million users. This trial software currently stops at sending text messages, but there are future plans to allow voice conversations with each other. This is good news as people no longer have to load so many instant messaging programs simultaneously, reducing the CPU's workload and freeing up more resources for other activities.
