D-Link introduces DNS-323

D-Link has a new 2-Bay network storage enclosure in the market, and this device is chock-full of next-generation technology, including a speedy Gigabit Ethernet connection, a built-in FTP server and UPnP audio visual media server, and support for a couple of 3.5" SATA hard drives. The new DNS-323 is a great device for those who want to a HTPC setup in their homes, as it enables you to share data and documents with everyone over a network. Don't worry about unauthorized access of your media files as you can create users and groups while assigning different levels of access permissions. The D-Link DNS-323 will retail for $229.99.

I got one bundled with a Dlink DSM-320 media player and after some fussing around I have got it to do most of what I wanted. The UPnP implementation is pretty poor and I ended up installing Twonkymedia on it which works much better, at least for audio content. Now I no longer have to boot up my pc to listen to my mp3 collection. Playback of video files is more of an iffy proposition, unfortunately but YMMV.

I returned a buffalo terastation this week because of poor performance and it being unreliable and purchased the dns-323. It's much cheaper, and the performance is hands down better than the terastation.

I have 2 500 GB drives with Raid 1. I had it up and running in about 30 minutes. That included installing and formatting the drives. I highly recommend it.

This seems like a pretty good deal for the functionality it provides... UPnP AV, iTunes support, gigabit etc. I haven't seen many real world reviews though and wonder how it really performs.. I just got a couple of Seagate 750GB's, and this would be a perfect home... assuming it actually works well. If anyone has read any reviews, please post some some links.

I got one the other day and had no luck getting the raid working.
