iKiosks offer free phone calls
Published on 09/28/2006

The Robert Gordon University (RGU) is offering the world's first iKiosk which enables people to make free Internet calls to anyone, anywhere in the world. Situated at RGU's Sports Center in Garthdee, the iKiosk features a network of touchscreen information points which offers free e-mail, videomail, Internet access, and a bunch of information about the council and local services which you never knew. These iKiosks enable you to call other iKiosks via a compatible VoIP program. Could this be the first step in bridging the digital divide between the poor and the rich? Having a place where you can make free phone calls will definitely send shivers down a telco provider's spine. It would be interesting to see how they react against a public service such as this when it becomes commonplace in the future.
