Mio H610 GPS Episode II - Unpacking

It’s time to unpack the Mio H610: the device itself is uber-looking with its ipod-esque clean look. (Check out the photo gallery). I couldn’t resist turning it on right away and the first impression was “wow, that display is really sharp”. It’s a 2.7”, 320x240 pixels screen – which is fairly common- but the difference is in the software that drives it: all the graphics (including the vector maps) are smooth, thanks to the use of Anti-Aliasing (AA), a pixel-smoothing technique well known on PC graphics. I've seen my share of GPS units, but this one has an amazingly clean rendering and uses its 320x240 resolution to its full potential. You can't see it on a still photo, but when you move around, the map scrolls fairly smoothly. It is so much faster than anything we've tried (C310 Review) , it's not even funny. The story is that Mio hired ex-video game programmers to do the job, and for these guys vector maps and scrolling is a piece of cake, believe me... This will raise the bar.
