Polaroid a520 a disappointment
The Polaroid brand name is synonymous with instant photos and auto-developing cameras, but the company too has gotten its feet wet in the digital camera segment. Unfortunately, the a520 from Polaroid does not mean serious business with its low-end specifications. If you are a beginner who is looking at a sub $100 compact digital camera, the Polaroid a520 would be right up your alley. For $85, you get a 5 megapixel sensor with 4x digital zoom, a 2" LCD display, 16MB memory, and a SD memory card slot.

i got this camara and i was very dissapointed with it...it takes great pictures in the sunlight, and good videos but that is about it...the night pictures are terrible and the flash does not reach far, but when it is at a closer range, it tends to be too bright and i can't even make out facial features...as everyone has been sayin, i got what i paid for (which was about $76 at target)

I bought an a520 to take pictures of battlefields when I visit them for research for school. I have to say that it works great for this but if you want real quality then you are going to have to get a quality camera. I paid $35 and the old saw still applies, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

SD protected message means that your Sd card is write-protected from adding any further pictures to it. To fix it, you need to find the little slider on the side of the SD card and slide it towards the gold pins. This should allow your card to be written to again.

Like many people posting, I received this as a gift. Most of my pictures were all washed out, but I read a helpful tip online. If you place a little snip of a coffee filter over the flash, it helps dilute it somewhat. I have the rubber case for the camera, so I just keep the filter scrap slipped into the cover.

I plan on giving this dreadful camera to my niece as a toy and am looking into buying a sony.

I bought the a520 for my son, and after countless hours of trying to make this thing take a decent picture, it is of my professional opinion that it's one serious piece of sh(i)t. The fisher-price "My Little Pony bathtub Adventures" cam I piad $15 for works better. After a week we ended up using the a520 for target practice... "PULL!"

Check the memory ard thats inside, theres a very small sliding thing on the side..if you move it one way the card is write protected, the other and you can save your photos to it.

My camera stoped working also. The shutter button does not move, therefore i can not take a picture. I used the camera less than 10 times. And i reacieved the same story from polaroid. I recieved my camera as a gift. Do you think they would do anything? Yep that's right they said they were not responsible.

i agree with most of the people that said bad things about this camera. i got it for a birthday present last year, and i only have 7 pictures on it, i NEVER use it, because no matter how far away from a person im taking the picture of, their faces are always washed out, their too white and i can only see their eyes, this is the shittiest camera! i THOUGHT poloroid was a good brand but i was definately WRONG.i advise you NOT TO WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS JUNK! no matter how cheap it is.

This is a total waste of money! The camera turns it self off when you are trying to take pictures, and takes forever to process and take the next one. Don't count on catching special moments with this...buy something a little more expensive and worth it.

This camera is a complete and total piece of s**t. It is useless unless you are outside in bright sunlight. Forget about focusing. You can get closer to what you want to photograph but you cant see what it is as you do. I think Polaroid should offer to buy back this steaming pile and give a free camera that actually works to anyone unfortunate enough to own one of these paper weights.

Garbage! Agree with every problem description above. Don't agree this should be a camera for beginners, too much to compansate for to get a proper picture.

Maybe I got a bad unit, or maybe I am missing a setting, but I just figured they had point and shoot standard by now. Not this one. Any low lighting situation? Forget about using the flash, it will white wash everything, no joke. Any movement? Blurry. Zoom? Completely grainy.

Well, no wonder this camera is giving so many people fits... It has no optical zoom! So, to the person having an issue with "crispness", there is your problem, and not the white balance - which is for lighting - sun, shade, flourescent, tungsten...

For the price it is a decent camera. The shutter speed is fairly quick as well allowing for quick processing so you don't have to hold the camera stationary for too long. This flash IS too bright but you can account for that by adjusting the exposure.

I got this camera for Christmas 2006. It fulfilled my needs for a digital camera, although I would have to agree with everything everyone has said about the flash and taking close up pictures. However, I had my camera for 5 1/2 months and it just quit working. First it would just turn off by itself, then just quit working all together. Think I'll invest in something made with a bit more quality next time.

This is a low budget camera for beginners. I just bought it for my 11 yr old daughter for her to take away with her for the summer ... I did not pay big bucks for it and she should enjoy it I do not expect quality photos .... the ones she has taken already are quite nice no problems....
I have an expensive Cannon camera and have only had it less than a year and the shutter broke after of course the warrenty I paid alot for that and really would have expected more ....
So if this lasts the summer and she is really into photography I will move her up to a REAL camera.

Well, at least I get compliments on the pink color. This camera takes better pictures w/ the flash off. But for 5MP, my pictures should be much crisper. I have also tried to adjust the white balance, etc., but the camera is just not good. Subjects must be very still and patient fir a good picture to be taken. Forget about using the zoom, the quality just plummets. For a few more dollars, get yourself a much better camera. Really, do NOT buy this one.

We bought this camera in pink for our daughter's 10th birthday and I think it's perfect for her. It's very easy to learn to use and it comes with a silicone protection skin. I myself, wouldn't want this camera. The flash was really bright making close-up face shots really washed out and you can't see what you are taking a picture of if it's the least bit dark where you're shooting. But for a 10 year old beginner, it's perfect.
