PPC6700 to be replaced by PPC6800
Existing owners of the PPC6700 will be pleased to know that UTStarcom has lifted the curtain on the upcoming PPC6800. Although details regarding this Windows Mobile 5.0-powered smartphone is pretty scant at the moment, the PPC6800 will feature a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and an aesthetic improvement by removing the antenna. Stay with Uberphones for the latest in all things cellular.

I have had 4 6700 in the last year replaced and now they are outdated so qwest is sending me a 6800. i hope it works better.i have had nothing but problems with the phone. i purhased it for the full 559.00 and am not happy that i had paid full price for a new phone and when it breaks down i get a used one sent to me.

i have the 6800 and have had these types of pdas since the 6600, approx. 5 years. I have no idea why I still use them because they are complete crap. I have the sprint version and it has no GPS without a accessory, no picture mail, and the day I left the store with the device, it lagged out that evening. I dont think this device is made with a small business in mind as stated by HTC and sprint. Save your $550 and buy something with better reviews.

Well I talked to a rep today and the new release date is....July 15, and you cant' break it and get a new 6800 b/c they still have some in the warehouse! As far as pic mail you can go to a site called www.ppcgeeks.com and learn how to get pic/vid mail, all to completely change any phone you have. Why pay for ring tones when you can make them or drag them from your comp. Don't forget about bluetoothing them! I agree w/ Dana B...I have had problem after problem on top of problems w/ my 6700 and when you do a claim they will send you a refurbished phone which breaks in a matter of 3 months if it works to begin with! Lets just hold on and keep an open mind w/ this long awaited 6800! Oh and checkout the slingbox.com it crushes sprintTV plus you can split the cost between friends and whoever had the best cable package wins...go to site to see for yourself!

The only concern I have as a ppc-6700 user is simply this, will one be able to use picture mail and access the Sprint Music Store with the 6800?

It's a no go for me if it doesn't support Sprint picture mail like the PPC-6600 or my current Treo 700p. If this is the case, I'll keep my Treo, thank you very much!

Yes, the 6600 and 6700 have been relegated way to fast to no support....running over with a car seems like fair retaliation......it is difficult to believe that with this sophisticated device anyone would be concerned about ring tones...

My ppc6700 was crap i had problem after problem after problem. Finally last week when i took it in they swapped it out for the treo700w after 4 times. My ppc 6700 would vibrate but not ring outloud, the screen would blank out and not come back on without restarting, the touch screen started not working, and the battery life was very poor. This was an ongoing problem with all 4 devices i rcvd. The only complaint i have about the treo700w is that when you are talking on the phone you cannot lock the keypad so you end up pressing lots of keys in the callers ear. if anyone has a solution to that. PLEASE HELP!

Most people I've heard from are saying Mid-May to early-June for the 6800. No, I don't have any inside info...just spreadiong more rumors. The local Sprint rep I talked to said it wasn't going to be April....but he had also heard mid-May, but nothing's for sure until it's officially announced.

I hear that if you try to get a replacement phone for a broken 6700 they will give you a treo700 instead of the new 6800

"Existing owners of the PPC6700 will be pleased to know that UTStarcom has lifted the curtain on the upcoming PPC6800."

I disagree with th word 'pleased'. UT Starcom is apparently considering the older models obselete and offering no support for them at all. It appears that UT Starcom is offering support only for the models have just come out. It is hard on the economy when a consumer spends nearly $700 for a PDA that outshines several models only to find they need to replace faster because the tech support doesn't exist. I'm thinking about buying the PPC-6800, but I am also thinking about stopping the Giant.

I would like to see a cross between the proposed SMT-5800 & the PPC-6800. I want the keys on the front of the SMT-5800 with all the features of the PPC-6800. With a problem on dialing noted with the PPC-6700 you would think they would fix this and go to the solution of having the dialing keys on the front of the phone/PDA.
