Pre-quake alarm could save lives

Published on 09/28/2006

Remember the tsunami that rocked the world a couple of years ago? Many people perished because the respective governments did not set up a proper warning system. Japan, being one of the few places in the world which is prone to earthquakes, have developed a new earthquake warning system that gives the general population approximately 20 seconds to take some precautionary measures such as hiding below a dining room table. Unfortunately, this technology does not work if you reside within the epicenter of the quake itself. Perhaps such a development, when handed over to less developed countries, will prove beneficial and helpful to keep as many people alive as possible during the next earthquake.
