Slimmest cellphone screens in the world

Slimmest cellphone screens in the world
And here we are - when a cellphone is stripped to its bare essentials, you get to see how they manage those deliciously slim cellphones that we see hanging around the market these days. LG and Philips LCD have worked together to create the slimmest cellphone screens in the world, with a thickness that measures only 1.3mm. This is roughly 32% to 55% slimmer than what their competitors are able to squeeze out (no pun intended). Look out for the next batch of handsets - you can be sure that they will be slimmer than ever before. Definitely not for those who have heavy behinds as these new cellphone will probably be too fragile to handle. ( Add a comment)

um, if they were smart they'd encase it in anodized aluminum, or perhaps titatium (but that'd make the price soar even higher).
and then COVER the screen with tempered glass

yea...

what an incredible waste of money. Who cares how thin your cell phone screen is? And if there's anybody who does care so much that they would go spend hundreds of dollars to get the thinnest one possible, then they need to be shot. In the crotch. Twice.

Is it because you still have an 80's brick phone that you're trying to keep alive?

Yea I agree its a waste of time and money if the screen is constantly breaking and it has to be fixed or even a new phone is needed. I wouold rather stick to the older thinner models that have less of a chance of being broken.

All screens are fragile...it's the housing that provides the strength.

did anyone notice that you can pretty much see all of the numbers on that credit card. (and the CVV2) Just thought someone (probably the owner of the card) would like to know!!!

are you serious? do you have technical background? you dont need bulletproof glass to protect an lcd screen. if you dont mistreat your phone it wont break. phones wont hold up to abuse.. so why abuse them? treat it like the $100-200 piece of electronics it is.

I have to tell you this but no matter what covers it if you hit the screen that small it is going to break....inless you put some bulletproof glass infrot of it....Which makes it useless

I can't believe people can be so dumb... back it up with a titanium case. Nobody is selling you bare LCD screens!

seriously, how shallow can you be to not appreciate what a breakthrough these screens are? thank you to whoever brought up the point that you're not buying this screened taped onto a number pad, you're buying a hard-cased phone that implements this screen, which is awesome. technology like this is gonna end up making our tv's just inches deep soon enough.

damn this is pretty stupid i like my electronics to be big and bulky so i feel strong its like carrying around a tank in my pocket ya know like the cell phones they had in the late 90s now that was the **** these new contraptions are for pussy willows if u catch me drift

What the heck, the screen would break? the screen of your current mobile is just the same, only a bit thicker. stupid...

The screen doesn't offer strength in ANY cellphone you morons. Thats what the frame is for.

The point is that a slimmer profile is more comfortable in your pocket. It's not a big deal but if the technolgy is avalable, why not?

Who would want to buy something like that...if it bends even a little, it'll probably snap in half...

Dudes, smaller and thinner is ALWAYS better, because it gives designers more room for electronics and batteries. Also, smaller components tend to use less energy. These are good things.

That's a great technology. I wouldn't worry about breaking this in half since they will always be in an external hard shell and not by itself. I'm sure the engineers already thought about that.

i think it would break way too easily. it wouldn't even be worth buying one if it constantly broke in half or if the screen cracked

GraphicArtist2k5,

No offense, but how many of today's screens are not protected? No one is using a bare screen itself. They are all covered with whatever component you're holding is made of, plus a screen cover. The fact that this screen is smaller makes electronics even skinnier.

WTF is the point of having a screen that is that damn thin? It's not like it's gonna be all that strong. Seriously, why not just put a piece of paper in a cell phone and write on it with a pen?
