Sony Reader PRS-500 finally released
Published on 09/28/2006

Has long delays of the Sony Reader PRS-500 hampered its impact upon release? There is reason to believe so as the specifications of the PRS-500 has not been updated to keep up with the times. This handheld device is meant to replace the paperbacks that you bring along with you on long road trips. It can store up to 80 complete books on average on the miserly 64MB internal memory, with the option to lug a whole library with you on a Memory Stick or an SD memory card. The five ounce PRS-500 displays the book page by page on its 6" display. The battery life is rated at 7,500 page turns, courtesy of E-Ink technology. You will still have to live with the monochrome display when browsing through RTF and PDF documents. Is it worth the $350 you fork out for this? After all, there is nothing quite like thumbing through a thriller during a chilly winter night with a warm mug of hot chocolate by the bedside.
