Suzuki Mio runs on fuel cells
Published on 09/29/2006

When the words "fuel cell" are brought up, the first thing that comes to our minds are hybrid cars. Suzuki aims to change that thinking by introducing wheelchairs that are driven by fuel cells. The Mio motor-driven cart is powered by a methanol cell which a lithium-ion battery acting as a backup. You might not even need a companion when making rounds around the neighborhood, doing it while looking hip and happening at the same time. It requires four liters of methanol to obtain a full tank, which translates to 25 miles of traffic. That should be able to last you for at least a few months before another recharge is required. An LCD display will inform you of the remaining fuel level and power status, while the ergonomic handlebars andd armrests will keep you comfortable as you wheel around. The Mio is currently in a prototype stage, although a commercialized version would definitely benefit a whole lot of people.
