The all-seeing Smart Wheelchair

Published on 09/22/2006

Japan is one country where the disabled are pretty much able to get about without any difficulty. The Japan National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology recently introduced a new smart wheelchair which comes with a 360-degree camera system, making it fully aware of its surroundings. This wheelchair is capable of avoiding collisions with people and objects, and is also able to sense whether the user is in need of medical assistance by detecting the changes in posture. In true point-and-click manner, this wheelchair will go where you point it to. There is no word on pricing and availability.
