Seagate preps Momentus FDE2
Data privacy is a very big thing, and Seagate has taken a step in the right direction by prepping the Momentus 5400 Full Disk Encryption 2 (FDE2) drives for a 2007 release date. These hard drives come with built-in encryption that requires some form of authentication before it can even be read. Seagate is currently looking for partners who can supply them with other forms of authentication including biometrics and smart cards. Unfortunately, there is no official announcement from PC manufacturers to support such a drive at the moment, so all that effort might actually go down the drain eventually.
