Single pixel image sensor developed
With the megapixel count for digital cameras constantly rising, it is pretty interesting to note that researchers at the Rice University at Houston, Texas, have successfully developed a prototype camera that utilizes a single pixel image sensor. You would think that a single pixel image sensor would take up a miniscule amount of space, but in reality, the prototype actually occupies several square feet worth of a large, laboratory workbench. Another thing going against it is the long amount of time required to expose each picture. The prototype uses a digital micro-mirror device to scatter Compressive Sensing light from an image, which is then picked up via a single photodiode sensor. Definitely something you won't see at your local Best Buy anytime soon.
