Trimersion brings VR to FPS games
The Trimersion Head Mounted Display might look cool at first glance, offering a virtual reality setup for those who thrive on FPS games over the PC, PS2, and Xbox, but it would most probably induce headaches and nausea more than echoes of wonder. The sensor within the Trimersion will track where your head moves in the head-mounted display, ensuring the in-game character will move accordingly as well. You can ditch the gun in favor of a mouse with the Trimersion since holding up a gun to the screen for long periods of time can get extremely tiring. The Trimersion retails for $395, automatically relegating it to yet another gaming peripheral that is doomed to fail.

Hi, I found you guys surfing for demo games fot this thing. and a link threw me in here. Nice place
I've been wanting one on these since e3.
The finally started to ship in August.
Its about time!! So I ordered it from their website. Which is workinkg. Nice booth babes guys.
And Bob is right you just look at the target and squeeze of a round. No lag at all. The motion tracked aim is really steady. Even on distant targets slight movements are detected and the aim moves with it. No jumping past the target. you can't play standing up. NoWay!! But a swivel chair is perfect
And the right side joy stick that controls the look along with the tracker is right at your fingertip. So you can look up or down at extreme angles without move your head up at that angle. Great for taking out snipers. And the cross-hairs on the screen are set right in the center of your view. These guys must be some serious gamers.
The picture and sound are really good and adjustable. And construction wise it's pretty solid.
On a scale of 10
I would give it an easy 8.5
And I do play with it a lot.
My Favorite games UT2004, Area51 and Serious Sam

Man what a trip.

Hello,

I have recently opened a new gaming facility called Galaxy Gaming Past Present Future. I am hoping to have a look at the Trimersion unit so I can add this to my gaming facility soon. I have been reviewing the 3001AD website for about 2 years now and hope this wireless unit is all that it's suppose to be. I still haven't got any answer on if I can buy it for my business or not. Maybe someday I will get a call back.

Thanks,

Shawn

To answer your question about a release... I have been assured, as an investor in the company, that the Trimersion will be on the shelf 1st quarter 2007. Although, I was also promised it would be out July/Aug 2006 so we shall see... I am hoping that my unit will be sent next month! Cant wait!

Nice to hear from someone who works for 3001 AD.. I have emailed your company numerous times with questions regarding your much anticipated product but have never received a reply.

I really look forward to reading reviews on the headset/gun and if they are good then I am for sure going to get one!

But the question is WHEN?? Your site has shown it 'pending for immediate release' for a LONG time now and there's still no ETA or updated FAQ...

I want to know things about the warranty you'll provide. And also I want to know how will freelook and aim work together ?? Will you aim your gun by moving your head ??

I sure hope it's released soon either way...

Well Bob,

You are right. It is easy for video gamer looser 20 somethingers who have yet to leave mommy's bosom and strike out on their own in search of a steady pay check to trash something they couldn't invent themselves. They waste their lives waiting in line for a PS3 instead of upgrading the current FPS experience with VR.

I plan on trying this one on before making a judgement as to the quality. Immersion is the key, not always higher resolutions combined with external distractions.

Again, uninformed comments from people who haven't tried the unit. The Trimersion is about as good as it will get for VR. If you don't like roller coasters, you probably won't like any head mounted display. One of the issues of trackers was a delay where you would turn your head and the images would pulse as the screen updated causing nausea. The Trimersion uses a gyro with no lag. When connnected to a PC or Mac through the USB connector, it is seen as a mouse and keyboard. The gyro starts moving the cursor on the screen as soon as it's turned on and if you open notepad, you can type characters with the gun. The most common mapping is the movement "WASD" on the front analog joystick on the gun and the default mapping on the programmable triggers is mouse 1 and 2. For console games the analog joysticks can be reversed based on what the game uses for "Look". We increased the rez of the screen to 640 x 480 which is close to the rez of NTSC video 720 x 480, so the image quality isn't bad. The sound amp can pump all the taunts and explosions right into your brain. There is no setup required, no drivers. It is designed to be a simple hardware solution for FPS games. The unit in the photo is also from a while back and the new unit is trimmer and sleeker.

You don't hold the gun up to a screen, it isn't a light gun but a controller and has all the buttons of a standard game pad. Best of all it's wireless. Yes there's a wire that connects the gun to the visor, but that's to put the batteries in the gun to keep the weight off your head. Otherwise you can turn around in the game just like you're there with no cables to get tangled up in.

To my knowledge there has never been a game accessory like this. The closest visor is the Z800 from eMagin and it's $595 and it only works on PCs. It also doesn't have half of the features of this unique device. So before you down it, give it a try. It isn't for everyone but for FPS players, it will surprise you. See it at CES.
