Weed-killing robot goes on a rampage
Posted on Oct 11, 06 11:14 PM PDT

The conventional method of getting rid of weeds reeked of environmental irresponsibility as farmers tend to dump tons of chemicals onto the ground unceremoniously instead of targeting specific areas where weedkiller is needed. Thankfully, a team of engineers at the University of Illinois have developed a solar-powered robot that is able to sense the presence of weeds, where it will then administer a lethal dose of weedkiller before moving on to the next spot. This weed-killing robot moves ambles about at 3 miles per hour and utilizes GPS, ultrasonic, and robotic vision to get around. Pretty neat, eh?
