Accurian Alarm Clock for iPod
You know how uninspiring all the other iPod alarm clocks in the market are? Radio Shack is offering an interesting mix of both the old and the new with the Accurian Alarm Clock for iPod. It comes in the classic round shape that we all know and love, but boasts an iPod dock that is compatible with the iPod Nano, 3G, 4G, and 5G iPods. It features a 9-minute snooze function to help slow starters get out of bed in case the initial song fails to peel open your eyelids. This device also doubles up as an iPod charger, so both you and your favorite music player will be able to face the new day with renewed energy. Pick the black or white version today for $29.99.

Just spend the extra $20 and get a better alarm clock. This thing will cause so much aggravation, it's not worth it. Plus, make sure you keep the directions or you have memorize the 324 step process to turn the back light off, get the beeping to stop, use the snooze button, etc. (or just NEVER unplug it)

My nephew left this iPod clock thing when he returned to London. I just found it and have no idea how it works. However, I placed my 60GB iPod into and it rocked! The sound is very good. In fact, it's much better than the iHouse external speaker thing my stepson left after his visit. I think I'll return the stepson's gadget, but I'm keeping the clock thing :-)

Is my ipod charging every time I'm docking it? I'm concerned that it's getting charged too often. This is opposite of what I've been told told about letting my ipod go almost dead before completely recharging...

If the clock won't recognize your ipod anymore, just try unplugging the clock and plugging it back in. It worked for me after that.

I was so happy to buy this, but I cannot get the backlight to stay OFF, even though I've selected "Settings>Backlighting>OFF". It stays off for a few seconds, but turns back on by itself. I will return it because I, too, do not want my backlight to burn out (8gb nano).

I tried everything you said. Finally got it to work partially. Never did get it to the right screen view. The thing is going back to the store. This is too much trouble for an alarm clock.

I don't mind it being on all night so much as I don't want to burn out or cause my backlight to go dim prematurely due to it being on for 6hrs or more. Having to undock it each morning to get it to turn off is, well, annoying.

Also, can the 5G not display the clock in a larger font? I get this tiny little clock listed at the top and then the NEW CLOCK option right below it, but I can't read it unless I'm 4ft from it or closer. The RadioShack photos show, I guess, and older model that has 3/4" clock font whick looks nice.

RTFM, in this case, both manuals.

1) You have to set up the alarm on the iPod -- set up the clock, set an alarm, set what music the alarm plays -- or the Accurian does nothing

2) You can turn off the backlight by going to iPod settings and setting the backlight off. Or just slip the iPod sleeve over it when you put it in the Accurian -- you can adjust the dial for a thicker iPod, and it will work just fine

3) To turn off annoying beeping, do as the instructions sheet says, the last step being critical:
- before docking iPod, jump to main menu
- dock iPod
- enter recognize mode by holding SNOOZE for three seconds (should double-beep, if it doesn;t, just hold for 5 seconds and assume it is in recognize mode anyway despite no double-beep)
- let go of SNOOZE, wait about one second, then click SNOOZE to move menu highlight
- repeat click SNOOZE and wait one second between clicks to move it down to EXTRAS
- when EXTRAS is selected, let go of SNOOZE, wait one second, then hold down SNOOZE again for three or more seconds
... you are all set

4) re: only using the snooze button to navigate... c'mon guys, that's OINLY talking about recognition mode. You can use the iPod functions all you like to navigate, and in fact Snooze only navigates in recognize mode

5) undocumnted tip: pressing in the volume button causes it to move the iPod to the clock screen

It's not a piece of ****. I've knocked mine off the nightstand several times and it still works great. I turn it around so the light isn;t as bright and just call it the night light. I hope I don't break it by forgetting to use the snooze button to navigate though.

Wow, am I glad I came across this thread! I was going to return mine because I thought there was something wrong with it (I have the same issues with the backlight and persistent beeping). Quick question: I am have a difficult time navigating the menu without using the iPod itself (the manual says to use the snooze button only). Are any of you having the same problem?

No matter what you try the backlight will never stay off. This thing is impossible... :(

Re: beeping- we had the same problem...when you hold the snooze for three seconds to get the clock to recognize your iPod, you should get two beeps. then you only have six seconds to put your iPod back to 'extras and hold the snooze button for another three seconds. Otherwise, you have to start the recognition process over. Annoying, but we got the beeping to stop by being really quick (after about a dozen tries!)
Good luck!

If u goto settings then to backlight u can change when your iPod has it's light on (at least with the mini).

My problem is that the beeping won't shut up. it just beeps constantly through any songs i play. This is even worse than the backlight, cause u could just like put a blanket or somethng over that. But the beep s***ks.

I can't find any setting that gets the backlight to go out..ever! Like the other comments above, it's very annoying in a room you'd like to be dark, and can't be good for it to be on 24/7.

what is the deal with the backlight i have either a beast of a night light or a verry bright visualy flaring distraction while im trying to sleep. dont they test these sorts of things?! does the designer not use this? if he does he must use one of those things to cover your eyes beacause it it imposible to sleep with the backlight on!
