Ads sneak their way into HD DVD
Posted on Nov 8, 06 09:29 PM PDT

Ye gods! We are being bombarded by advertisements everywhere we go, and just when you think that you're safe from pre-movie sales pitches when you pop in the latest HD DVD movie in your player, more mindless drivel greet your eyes and ears. Since HD DVD discs can store tons of data, movie studios thought it was a stroke of genius to fill up that empty space with more advertisements. For example, in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift HD DVD, there is a Progressive Insurance tie-in that lays down all the damage cars in the movie experienced. With Blu-ray discs boasting much more storage space than HD DVD, imagine how many more ads you can find on those should this marketing idea become the norm.
