DoorLinX uses MP3 as doorbell tune
Posted on Nov 29, 06 09:07 AM PDT

Looks like MP3s will soon take over the world at the rate things are going. From monotones to polyphonic ring tones and now MP3 ring tones, we now have the DoorLinX by Netstreams that holds any MP3 file up to 0.5MB in size. The DoorLinX is very much a cool product, but the small amount of memory is pretty disappointing albeit sufficient to cater for a doorbell. D.I.Y. enthusiasts will most probably create their very own MP3 doorbell by making it accessible via the home network. I predict within the next decade, we will get vehicles that do away with the traditional honk in horns and feature Britney's latest rockin' tune instead.

hahaha... well, now 3rd world has a new meaning! we (in Mexico) are waaaay beyond horns in vehicles. In most large trucks, cargo trucks & custom made cars you can now find from Tarzan yealing as you hit the pedal in reverse, to a cow horn, the latest cumbia or the classic "viene vieneee viene vieneee" usually heard near markets...
MP3 doorbells... HA! that is sooooo retro down here... hehe
