Elecom SCR-CD0001 disc scratcher
This portable CD/DVD shredder from Elecom is slightly different as it does not actually turn your beloved contraband material into tiny bits of plastic when the RIAA come knocking on your door. Instead, the Elecom SCR-CD0001 will gleefully leave scratches all over the underside of your CDs and DVDs in a strangly hypnotizing pattern, rendering them 100% unreadable. This is most likely a portable USB-powered device and works great for those who carry extremely sensitive data on the road. No idea on whether it will make its way to Stateside, but there is always an import shop if you're desperate enough to ensure your discs are properly scratched by a professional.

Here's an even simpler media destruction device that leaves a deep optical groove on the disc that can't be recovered. Unlike shredding or microwaving, it creates no waste or toxi fumes, and promotes Recycling of the whole disc: www.DiscEraser.com

-bzzzzt- Wrong side.

Thick mineral oil can be used to fill the scratches and allow the laser to focus right through them.

Only morons destroy their CD/DVD media by scratching the *underside*. You have to get the emulsion.

Microwave for 3 seconds is the best way.
