Pentax celebrates with LX Gold camera
Looks like King Midas dropped by the Pentax office and offered his magical touch that turned the LX Gold camera into, uh, gold. If only he made a stop at recording studios around the world since we seem to get nothing but garbage over the airways, but I have digressed too much. The aptly named LX Gold camera is not only lovely to look at, it holds the distinction of being the first waterproof and dust-resistant SLR camera in the world. Meant to celebrate Pentax's 60th anniversary, the LX Gold is certainly a gem worth keeping if you have a penchant for luxuriously dressed up cameras.

Our readers report that this Camera was in fact built as a limited edition in 1981. Read bucky's comment below.

Way back in 1981 when graffiti was still adorning the subways and the price of coke was $20 a gram, Pentax had sold it’s ten-millionth LX SLR camera. To celebrate this fete, they created a limited edition “LX Gold” edition which was 18 carat gold plated and wrapped in brown leather lizard skin. It came in a wooden box with red lining and silk gloves for handling. Only 300 pieces were made with 200 going to Japan and 100 for the international market... (read more at complex.com)
