Wii to get DVD playback next year
Purists will gripe and whine that the Nintendo Wii does not feature any built-in DVD playback, but their distress doesn't really matter much as most homes already have a DVD player. In fact, DVD players are so cheap these days you can probably snag one for under $50 easily. This complaint has not gone unnoticed by the Big N, and they will be releasing a DVD-compatible Wii sometime in the latter half of 2007. The updated console will use the CinePlayer CE DVD Navigator from Sonic Solutions. In the meantime, you had better get your camping gear ready as the Wii is released Stateside this Sunday.

While it is true that most homes have a DVD player and they sell cheap these days, try packing a variety of 20 different electronics items into the cab of a Semi, into an RV, or into a SUV. The reason I have Xbox is because Nintendo refused to make the Gamecube backwards compatible and because the console did not play DVDs. I have a 27" flat screen TV in my rig, along with DirecTV and Xbox. I already have 2 seperate consoles without having to add a 3rd console just to play DVDs. I guess I could throw out some necessities like food and clothes to make some extra room.
