FCC leaks Philips WiFi VoIP phone

Published on 12/14/2006

Deep down inside the FCC's electronic filing system lies a wealth of unmined information that has to be gradually released into the blogosphere less we all suffer from an information overload and have brains oozing out from our ears. The latest wireless VoIP handset from Philips comes with a VGA-class webcam and a 240-degree pivot that makes it suitable for video calls, but unless it embraces AIM chat or Skype video, it will be pretty much useless. The 2.2" color 176 x 220 pixel display ain't half bad though, but it definitely isn't suitable for viewing high resolution images. There's no word on pricing or availability at the moment. In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed that widely popular standards will be embraced in favor of proprietary formats.
