Iomega ups storage ante on Mac Mini

Published on 12/ 5/2006

The Mac Mini is Apple's smallest and cheapest desktop with a major drawback - it has an extremely limited amount of hard drive space, no thanks to the tiny chassis. Storage currently maxes out at 160GB, which is why Iomega decided to take up the task of offering Mac Mini users a much larger hard drive space to work with. The latest offering from Iomega comes with half a Terabyte of storage space (that's 500GB for the mathematically challenged) as well as a trio of USB 2.0 ports and an equal number of FireWire ports. The Iomega MiniMax external hard drive looks just like the Mac Mini and can be stacked on top or below. Priced at $280, you get pretty much bang for your buck. More specifications are available after the jump.

• More connection capabilities with three FireWire ports and a three-port USB integrated hub • Interactive cooling system with thermal probe automatically regulates fan speed • Comes complete with EMC Retrospect software for hassle-free backup and disaster recovery • Just 6.5” square and 2” tall, takes up minimal space • Easily stacks with the Apple® Mac® mini or additional Iomega MiniMax™ hard drives • Up to 480MB/s transfer rate (USB 2.0) • Up to 400MB/s transfer rate (FireWire 400) • FireWire 1394a 3-port repeater/hub • USB 2.0 high-speed 3-port hub • Smart power switch – will power up and down in tandem with Mac Mini • Special micro security slot designed to allow drive to be anchored to a desk
