MPIO MG100 drop dead gorgeous
MPIO has a spanking new flash-based digital audio player up its sleeves, and the MG100 definitely oozes with sexiness thanks to its brushed aluminum look that is guaranteed to turn heads whenever you whip it out from your pocket. Features include 1GB or 2GB of memory, the standard repertoire of tricks including voice recording, line-in encoding, and an FM radio, a tiny 262k color display, and an "adjustable playback speed" which would presumably come in handy for those who want to review sports videos on the go. The 1GB and 2GB models were rumored to retail for 99 and 125 Euros respectively.

I asked the video question back in January, unfortunately I dont think anyone knows anything about it!

this could be fixed if the damn configuration file was not created by the firmware executable. The firmware executable creates a file called USBDisk.ini which contains a line reading "Capacity=1988.00 MB"

Just a hunch, but that line is probably the sole reason why the player becomes a 2GB from a 4GB.

I tried modifying the config file when initially running the firmware update but this did not take as I believe it started the partitioning/formatting before i could save my changes.

Anyways, my suggestion? Email the crap out of MPIO about these problems, maybe they'll get their act together.

How do you put mtv videos onto the mg100 player? All I get are errors when I try to drag and drop the files. They say the device does not support those files or they must be in a folder or something.

Mpio's rule! So what it shut off on you. Ya have to go to settings and choose how long it stays on. And to recharge it, just plug it into your computer using the USB cable it came with. The mpio does the rest. And if you can't watch video's you probably didn't download the MTV video converter. If you don't know where to get it go to www.brothersoft.com/downloads/mtv-video-converter.html I hope this made you realize that Mpio's really do rule.

Just *updated* the firmware to 123 and it deleted all my files and made it a 2 GB mp3 player. Downgraded more like it. What a pos. DO NOT INSTALL THE MPIO_MG100_1_01_23 DRIVERS!!! Can we get a solution for this? The 1.5 drivers don't solve this problem.

I paid $50 Cdn from best buy. It works as promised. One warning: as of mar 08 the website had the latest firmware but it converts your 4gb player to a 2gb one. Thankfully someone posted a revised firmware they got from mpio support.

The earphones are pretty cheap.

Charging goes on and on but i haven't tried this yet with the updated firmware.

I haven't tried video playback yet but you simply use the software the player came with and just copy it over.

One thing i don't like is navigation: if you have folders created for music you can't really jump from one folder to the next.

you have to connect the device directly to a usb port on your computer and not use any extended or added hub ports.i use windows xp,it recognized it as a mass storage device(msc).its easier to put files on it this way.to test if it installed properly, double click on my computer on desktop, the player should be listed as a drive(mpio mg 100(f)thats the way mine looks .the best thing to use is mp3 files.put them on by clicking on the file once, then right click, point to the send to option, the player should appear as an option to send to,click on it it. and the file will transfer to the player.(the file has to be origanally stored on your computer)battery only charches when the computer is on.i also find that it doesnt say when it is full.according to what i read, charging it for an hour makes it run for 20 hours music,6 hours video.in order to put videos on it(i havent tried yet),you have to install the converter that comes on the disc to convert the video to mtv format first.i found that it frooze a couple of times,i had to unplug it from computer and plug it back in.if everything goes totally astray, theres a reset button on the back.its also the mic.its a little hole you have to stick a little pin in the hole to reset it.be careful to just push down gently.you will feel it when it presses down.if your adjusting the settings, you have to push the button in the center for that paticular setting before you exit it.i too updated the firmware like they advise to do in the manuel and alas i just checked and it now says 2gb capacity.i would guess the solution is to find the original firmware and install that.

my girl friend bought me the mpio mg100 for valentines day:)I really enjoyed the options and was easy to use, then while pluged in i pressed menu for a few seconds to switch between storage types and it froze.i turned it off and it has not worked since. So i returned the faulty product thinking it was a secluded incident.i grabbed two mg100's one for my girl friend and i.i come home plug it into the labtop let it charge a bit the lab top runs out of battery and shuts down.I come in the room both the labtop and the mpio are turned off.to my suprise the labtop turned on the mpio didn't. the unit does not receive the power and the computer does not pick up the device.i am quite frustated one hour return line at best buy one hour transit there and back.only for the second disapointment.i have called digital cool mpio they have not responded.agian if this produnct actually worked it would be a good one.bad custumer relations bad instuctions manual faulty hardware. best buy offer s for a fee of twenty dollars a two year repacement warranty it sounds like a good idea to get it, but i cant be bothered i have spent more time complaining about this product than i have been able to use it. no wonder there is no comment page on their website.this has offically been a total waste of my time.

good luck.

Got a 4GB and everything works as it should be using the manuals included. To see videos - convert them first to .mtv using the converter included on the cd. Next, plug unit into computer, transfer mtv videos, unplug unit, select video from menus, view.

To charge - the battery indicator will stop moving when fully charged, but make sure the USB cable is connected to version 2.0 not 1.1 - for me this seems to do the trick.

Absolute junk. Don't buy it. If you're very lucky you might get it to work with your computer, but the support is terrible and you can't update firmware without trouble. The firmware it ships with is buggy .. I mean, how could they ship with firmware that doesn't even tell you when the battery is charged!? Absolute junk. Avoid.

The company needs some quality control. Got mine during Best Buy's Boxing week sale and ended up exchanging it twice. The firmware upgrades on the website reformats the 4G memory into a 2G and after some fiddling, it completely refused to upgrade at all. The second one had a complete lack of quality control: instead of a usb-connection cable, there were two sets of earbuds and two sets of necklaces.
Though the design is appealing, sound quality is good, the battery and charging remain an issue. Considering the low price, this can be a viable option if you're willing to risk the hassle.

It seems that this player works much better in a MSC mode - means USB storage device than MTP mode - Microsoft protocol. Just press 'menu' while connected and wait until MSC appear - then you can copy files. MP3 files have to be copied to the 'Music' folder. Unfortunately I cannot use full disk space, reset doesn't help. Conclusion: return this little sh't and buy a brand name, even twice expensive.

When I sync music onto the player, it puts the songs in various places. I can only listen to the songs that are in the music folder, if songs show up in the video or viewer section they are read only and cannot be played. Can anyone help? Hi again, i recently found out that some problems about charging the battery is that, if you plug the cable to the usb port in the back of the desktop you will receive more power than plugging the mp3 in the front.
I haven't tried it yet but i will now, so if you don't think this works... then, the HELL with the mp3

i know what you mean bro. i lost all my files the first time too. but since i liked the player i traded it for another one.
CHARGING: as for the charging thing. LISTEN PEOPLE the charging meter NEVER stops the only thing that changes is the color of the little battery at the bottom of your screen. when your charge is low the color of the battery is red but after half and and over it turns to green, which means your good to go and its charged.

DELETING FILES: to delete a file simply go to the BROWSER on your MENU, then select the file that you wish to delete, then press the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON and select yes when asked if you want to delete the file.(i know the manual says to press menu but it must be some sorta typo, after all this thing was prob. written by Koreans)
my only prob with this model is that i don't know how to update the firmware, last time i tryed i got F#$KED and i don't wanna make the same mistake twice.

Hey everybody, i also had a problem with my this MG100 Mp3, my battery was also low even if i charge it for like 3 days...
and the manual is completely useless... and make sure you don't follow the steps for the last page on the english part, where it says to keep your MG100 up to date. Don't do it because it will corrupt your whole mp3 and you will lose all your files. It also turn my 4gb MG100 mp3 to a 2gb MG100 mp3. If your having trouble just bring it in for a new one or a different mp3...

Before putting music, I had to charge it for about 15-30 minutes. After that, simply select the songs I want, Copy and Paste (CTRL C). You can also simply drag and drop the music files in Windows explorer. Works just like any other USB media storage. It's quite easy !

This is one of the worst things that I have ever seen in my life. My Brother went to an bought it yesterday It worked for about 20 minutes then it didn't go on again. The manual takes about three hours just to go through to find the English sections, and the company is extremely full of themselves with all the advertising that they do for the product. Here's a Hint "MAKE SURE THAT THE PRODUCT ACTUALLY WILL WORK" I think that I will take my little brother tomorrow to go and get and Ipod like I have. At least it will turn on!

I got this for Christmas. It's beencharging for 2 days and still shows no sign of being fully charged. The sample song sounds great but for the life of me I can't figure out how to put a damn song on the thing. I trued hitting Menu when it's in charge mode and all it did was turn off. The book is completely useless. I'm not what one might call 'techy' but this is completely beyond me. I'm pretty sure there are better products out there that do the same thing and have much better 'how-to's. Back it goes. UGH! There's nothing worse than going to Best Buy or Future Shop during Boxing Week.

Have to agree it "looks" like a nice piece of kit however, the instruction manual is completely useless. What's more the web site mostly brags about how great the product is giving little insight on how to use it. Can't for the life of me think why a company would spend so much on product development and advertising yet so little on customer satisfaction. Mine will certainly be going back.

i just got mine for christmas, and it works ok... i had some problems early i'm running vista, and like i plugged it in, and it recognised it as a portable device w/ mass storage... i tried putting mp3's on it, and got the remove write protecting thing, but just now i put it in and it recognised it as the mpio MG100, and now i can put music on it... so idk, i'm just going to hope for the best XD

Instruction manual for MPIO mp3 MG100 is indeed deficient..there is nothing at all about battery charging which is very important..have been charging mine for almost 24 hrs. now and still the battery symbol is filling up...computer cannot sync when the battery is still charging while connected via the USB port.. charging via a computer is not a good feature (very inconvenient esp. when travelling)..what a drag and totally frustrating..just bought this from Best Buy but not a good buy at all...am returning this item for sure...Good Luck with yours.

Mine works but every time I charge it and leave it the next time I turn it on I get a Root no file message. The only solution I've been able to come up with is to reformat and resync. Such a pain. The only other thing to do is stand over it while it charges so it doesn't go too far. Useless. The last MPIO I'll buy.

It seems many different MPIOs' are lacking in...well, good technology apparently. My brother has an MG100 that won't charge at all.
I myself have had an MPIO HD400 for the past year and a half, worked perfectly fine until it got this ridiculous 'Illegal HDD' error, much like your error 41 it seems.
The company really should have tested these products much more before sending them out - because there are A LOT of complaints towards A LOT of problems.
Though I have contacted someone who may be able to help. I would suggest doing that if all else fails.

Reset helped me I had once problem, like it didn't react.

EQ can be modified during playback by pressing middle button for some secs

two usb modes are available MPT and MSC. MPT will not allow you to upload other than music. press menu while connected

Just received mine; it doesn't seem to charge. I can do some browsing and radio but after a minute or so the screen goes black and it doesn't startup anymore, only a reset (while connected) seems to help. Tried installing the latest firmware, but that didn't work out either. Now trying to fully charge it, if it doesn't work in the morning, i'll change it for a Creative Zen Plus. Support and documentation is also lacking.

I also had difficulties with "writeprotection" messages but i could copy over the music files to the mp3 player when i really loaded the battery full (several hours until the battery symbol get still). Then it was no trouble to copy over the mp3 files from my computer.

Looks nice and comes with a handy clip. Sound is good and even the earphones which come along have nice sound. Menu simple and fast to learn. Pitty you can's modify equalizer during song play. The manual is not that good, doesn't say anything about charging and voice activated recording. There's a download site now but no new firmware. Had to buy an optional mains USB charger. Have 4 G version. I would say, nice device, good battery life, 4 G, equalizer good FM radio, nice gear !

Incase anyone else gets this message. I used media player to format the drive then shuffled music back on. It seems to be working, but I think it will only be a matter of time before this happens again.
Also it is a file system error (I restored settings and the error showed as such)

Just bought it; I agree it looks pretty snazzy and the sound is equally good. Just a few things that drive me batty at this point. No website support???@!!! Some of the sound settings like "repeat" modes do not hold if selected from the "SETTINGS" menu. The supplied manual is also very lacking. It says one can upgrade the firmware from the MPIO website. That must be a joke I don't really get. This player does not exist according to MPIO!!!!???? I'm starting to worry now. How is this supported and by whom??? All in all a pretty decent MP3 player and much more for the price paid $80 CDN.
