China skips 3G for 4G

China has definitely outdone itself this time by leapfrogging the 3G wireless standard in favor of being the first country to feature 4G connectivity. Despite not having any existing 3G infrastructure in china, a group of 10 leading domestic institutions who go by the moniker FuTURE Project rolled out 4G in Shanghai yesterday. Field tests for 4G are expected to begin soon, and if the data transmission speeds of up to 100MB/s is anything to go by, I'm all for it. The authorities in China are prepping themselves for commercial 4G usage three years down the road.
