Immortal Computing concept

Published on 01/22/2007

Certain segments of researchers working at Microsoft are currently working on the concept of saving messages to be delivered at a much, much later date. Dubbed "immortal computing", the concept enables people to store digital information inside physical artifacts as well as other forms that can be revealed to future generations and even civilizations that come long after we're gone. I see one major snag to all this though, as the integrity of the stored data would have to be almost 100% secure lest the ravages of time turn this effort into a white elephant. Format migration is also another issue that one has to think about before embarking on a project of such magnitude.
