It goes without saying that the ultimate green home appliance would be a solar-powered air conditioner, and this is now a reality with the air conditioned tent by Wingnut/New Sun Productions. This tent works as an evaporative cooler, utilizing dry air from around to evaporate water which subsequently cools the air, blowing it back into the tent to keep the occupants inside cool and comfortable. There is still much work to be done on the design, and word has it future iterations will fold up into a bike trailer, enabling it to be towed right behind mountain bikers with the solar-powered motors providing its fair share of boost. The New Sun tent measures 6′ x 9′ and boasts up to 54 square feet of living space. You will have to fork out approximately $5,000 for a New Sun tent, which is way beyond the reach of the average consumer.
